Thousands were outraged by Kammer’s comments and have rallied to the defence of the wild swine family.
The Guardian reported that a group called Action Fair Play gathered about a dozen protesters at the forestry office on Sunday.
And a change.org petition has garnered more than 7,000 signatures supporting the rescue of the “cheeky but peaceful sow from Teufelssee,” the Guardian reported.
“This wild boar has earned the right to live,” the organizers say. “This sow has peacefully shared her living space with bathers for years.”
But it’s Elsa’s friendliness that authorities are worried about.
For now, her piglets are too young for the family to be killed, but, the Irish Times reports, wild boar hunting season begins in October.
